Gael Monfils’ reason is a valid one. When you have seen some play so many times you naturally expect things that others do not. Even though the reason is a valid one I don’t think Gael can say that he is not as impressed as everyone when he sees some of Rafa’s shots like this one.

This amazing shot by Rafael Nadal was played at the 2016 Monte Carlo Masters. He was playing in the final against Gael Monfils. He sealed the title with an astonishing forehand down the line. Even Monfils was impressed with this shot.

Rafa’s ability to play such shots is the reason why he has reached the top of tennis. It is the reason why he is in the race to be considered the GOAT of tennis. To finally be considered the GOAT, Rafa has to hold the one record – the most grand slam titles. The only person standing in his way is Roger Federer with 20 grand slam titles.

Rafael Nadal narrowed Roger’s lead to one grand slam by winning the 2019 US Open. This is the closest Rafa has ever gotten to Roger Federer and will be hoping to equal his record soon. He will have the opportunity to do this once the ATP tour returns form its suspension in July.
