World No.2 Rafael Nadal is on the verge of entering yet another elite list of tennis players. It’s like he is not changing records but records are chasing him. Rolex Paris Masters 2020 is about to kick-off from 31st October and will stretch till 8th November 2020. Nadal has won 999 singles’ matches in the ATP Tour so far and can become the second player after Roger Federer to enter the ‘1000’ elite club if he manages to win a single match at the tournament. It is yet another coming milestone for the 34-year-old Nadal.

Out of his 1000 wins (whenever it comes), 10% of his victories have come in the French Open itself. This type of dominance in a particular Grand Slam is unparalleled. He is the first player in the Open Era to the same Grand Slam 15 years after winning it for the first time.

Rafael Nadal has been all in the headlines for a week now. He won his 13th French Open title, taking his Grand Slam title to 20. He is now tied with Federer who also has 20 Grand Slam titles so far. The only difference is the age factor. Nadal won his 20th at the age of 34 while Federer was 36 when he accomplished the feat. The Spaniard still has at least  3-4 years of tennis career left while Federer is 39 at the moment.

Nadal has also played a total number of 28 Grand Slam finals. His winning percentage is about 71% which is greater than that of Federer (65%) who has played 31 finals and managed to win on the same 20 occasions. The World No.2 is the only player out of the ‘Big Three’ who has a Gold Medal in Singles’ at the Olympic Games. He won it in 2008.

Nadal has played 1200 matches so far. He is behind Federer who has managed to play 1513 matches until now. The Swiss Maestro won 1242 out of them. World No.1 Novak Djokovic is third on the list with 930 wins in his total of 1119 matches.

Out of the ‘Big Three’, Nadal has been the most successful enjoying a winning percentage of 83.25%. The Serbian is second on the list with 83.1% and Federer behind the two at 82.1%.

Nadal has re-ignited the G.O.A.T debate winning the Roland Garros 2020 when all the odds were against him. He became the first player to defeat Novak Djokovic in 2020, that too in straight sets. What is left for him is just the ATP Finals. It is the only thing that Nadal has not won in his career so far. He would surely want to put an end to this record.
