Red Bull Boss Glad that Ferrari F1 Situation Didn’t Befall His Drivers

During the Brazilian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen, Pierre Gasly and Carlos Sainz were not the only headline-grabbers. The Ferrari duo tangled with each other and took themselves out of the race, blowing the podium race wide open.

In light of that fallout, Red Bull team principal Christian Horner opened up of the situation at Ferrari. The Briton confessed that he was glad that he does not have to face such a scenario with warring drivers.

In all honesty, something of this magnitude was a long time coming, given the way, Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc were battling. Their rivalry reached a crescendo during the Brazilian Grand Prix when they made contact, knocking both SF90s out of the race.

An unimpressed CEO, John Elkann summoned the duo along with team principal Mattia Binotto. After a ticking off, Elkann warned them that the team comes first, and not their petty squabble.

Admittedly, Christian Horner is no stranger to driver clashes in the past, having seen two of them in his tenure. Vettel had a number of run-ins with former team mate Mark Webber during their time together at Milton Keynes.

Similarly, in 2018, Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo crashed out in Azerbaijan. So, the Red Bull boss knows that there are no real winners when team mates clash.

“It depends on the scenario and each team has a different approach, and different people have different approaches, so it’s difficult for me to judge Ferrari’s situation,” Horner told Autosport.

“But the loser is always the team in that situation. Obviously it is a tricky one.”

He added: “I’m glad it’s not my drivers. It’s always a difficult situation. Race drivers are fiercely competitive animals, and there is often a conflict between what is right for the team and what is right for the individual.”
