So far in Formula 1, four races done and dusted and Mercedes seem to be ruling the roost. Scuderia Ferrari seem to be floundering, but doing enough to stay ahead of Red Bull. But the Austrian team has a new weapon which will likely make its debut in Spain.
So far, the Red Bull team had been complaining of cornering issues in the first 4 races. However, this new update is expected to remove their cornering troubles in theory at least. Red Bull motorsport advisor, Dr Helmut Marko has been given a promise that this upgrade will banish their cornering Achilles heel.
With regard to corner speed, Mercedes have been very quick and were unrivalled in that department. While new partners, Honda, had been placed under a scanner since the start, Red Bull are aware that their aerodynamics are not up to scratch.

For the Chinese Grand Prix, Red Bull fitted a brand new front wing on Verstappen and Gasly’s cars. While it helped a little bit, it was only a temporary fix rather than a permanent solution, according to Red Bull team principal, Christian Horner.
“[Faster] in all corners just as fast as Mercedes, apart from one,” Horner proudly declared after the race.

Previously, teams could manipulate the air flow with the front wing. All the team ave to do is fit small wings on the front wing and the air will be pushed aside. However, with the simpler front wings, such a notion can no longer be entertained. Now, the air flows directly against the wheels and the presence of more air means greater the loss of time, as explained by Racing Point technical chief Andy Green.
