World No. 1 Novak Djokovic is one of the most celebrated players in the men’s game. However, the man who transformed the young Serb into a machine-like player is Marian Vajda. In 2006, the former Slovak tennis player took up the task of coaching Novak and the rest is history.

Recently, Marian spoke about Novak’s recent performance at the Australian Open. He regrets not being beside him while the Serb lifted his 18th Grand Slam title. He gave an insight into the preparations prior to Novak’s departure to Australia and was content that his training came to use in the final of the tournament.

The 55-year-old coach said, “I was sorry I wasn’t there. I will never forget when he won his first Melbourne title in 2008 and what was going on in the locker room. I wish I was with him now. We were together in Marbella, during December.

“Two weeks of intensive training, fitness work. We worked on service, first and second. Also on the back, which is especially important in all matches. It was a pleasure to watch from this distance how he used it all in the final against Medvedev.”

Vajda also confirmed his presence in the Djokovic camp at Roland Garros, scheduled later this year.

The Slovak provided an update regarding the 33-year-old’s schedule for the season ahead, citing Djokovic will lessen the number of tournaments.

Novak’s head coach, Marian Vajda, further added, “We need to see what his calendar will look like. I’m worried about reports of his injury. We will certainly reduce the number of tournaments. His health must be most important to us. I think I will travel to Dubai to see him, and I will certainly be with him. at Roland Garros.”
