The Serbian legend Novak Djokovic is a member of the Serbian Orthodox Church. He has made enormous contributions to monasteries of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Kosovo and Metohija. He also did charitable work in Serbia. For his notable work at the religious centers, the Patriarch Irinej of Serbia awarded Djokovic the Order of St. Sava I class in the year 2011.
“This is the most important title of my life because before being an athlete, I am an Orthodox Christian,” he stated after receiving that honor. It is the highest decoration of the Serbian Orthodox Church.

His key factors of success – yoga and meditation
Besides his religious beliefs, Novak is supremely spiritual and works towards his spiritual development. He is an avid yoga enthusiast and he mediates on a regular basis. Djokovic credits yoga and meditation for his success on the tennis court.
In 2018, Novak Djokovic made an ‘impossible comeback’ on the ATP Tour, and the Serb credits yoga for his success. He was ranked outside the Top 20 rankings and did not win a title in the first half of the 2018 season. However, with embracing positivity, the Serb lifted the Wimbledon title and later extended his major-match winning streak to 26.

Jelena Djokovic introduced yoga to Novak
His wife Jelena Djokovic is an avid reader and with her interest in reading different topics, she came across the concept of yoga. Later, the couple adopted the practice and started doing it together. Djokovic practices ‘pranayama’ (breathing exercises), sun salutations, and other yoga postures. It has helped him to stay at “an optimal state of mind and peace and calm.”

“I do meditation and yoga out of a need to have an optimal state of mind and peace and calm, and at the same time happiness and joy, ” he told Amuse. Reportedly at the Buddhist Buddhapadipa Temple in Wimbledon, Djokovic practices meditation for an hour whenever he is there. Novak is close to monks there and he has spoken of the positive power of meditation.
