With a disastrous 2020 drawing to an end, there are signs that the world is healing again. The stock markets are doing better, the Paris climate accord seems to be working, and Patrick Mahomes is once again an MVP contender.

The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, who won the MVP award in his rookie year, has been doing what he does best and is looking like a firm favorite to lead his team to yet another Super Bowl.

With Mahomes’ outright dominance being as well documented as it is, Chiefs wide receiver Mecole Hardman, while talking to the media, admitted that the league might as well rename the MVP and call it ‘The Mahomes Award’ henceforth.

Comparisons to LeBron and Jordan

Drawing comparisons between Basketball superstar LeBron James and Patrick Mahomes, Hardman said that the level of performance that both athletes manage to put forth on a weekly and yearly basis is enough to warrant them an award of their own.

“Name the MVP award ‘The Mahomes Award.’ Because I feel like I’m a big LeBron fan, and every year I’m like, this man is averaging 27, eight and eight, and taking his team to the finals — you know what I’m saying? Nobody is doing that. He’s in year 17 or 18, what’s the discussion?” Hardman said.

“I think they do it to the point where they don’t want to just have Pat win it every year or LeBron win it every year. I’m pretty sure Jordan could have won it every single year. It’s like, just name the award after him,” he added.

Patrick Mahomes primed to be a superstar in the years to come

Mahomes is without a shade of doubt one of the best in the world at what he does. His ability to stretch plays and hurt opposing defenses has helped him and the Chiefs become one of the most lethal teams to face in the league.

His 31 touchdowns to 2 interceptions through the season so far is a stat that almost sounds too good to be true. Add to that, the quarterback who’s only into his third full season in the NFL is averaging 317.9 yards a game this season, and if the numbers are anything to go by, he’s only getting better.

If the Chiefs O-line can keep Mahomes safe from the sort of blows that can end a quarterback’s career abruptly (Case in point, Andrew Luck), then could the Texan be the man to usurp Peyton Manning’s record of most league MVPs (5) in the years to come?
