French racing driver Anthoine Hubert tragically lost his life during the 2019 F2 Belgian Grand Prix. The 22-year old was involved in a tangle with Juan Manuel Correa, Giuliano Alesi and Marino Sato at Eau Rouge and Radillion.

While the latter two escaped serious injury, the same could not be said for Correa or Hubert. Correa ended up with two leg fractures and a spinal injury, while Hubert suffered a more grave fate.

In tribute to the young Frenchman, the Renault team posted a video of Anthoine Hubert in an older spec of a Formula One car. The 2-time 2019 F2 Grand Prix winner was performing for the fans at an exhibition event.

The Renault team were particularly affected by his passing, because he was a Renault Academy driver. Even the likes of Charles LeClerc, Pierre Gasly, Lando Norris and other younger drivers were affected, having competed with Hubert at some point in their careers.

The tributes did not stop there, and all 10 F1 teams declared that they would race with Hubert on their minds. In addition to that, on Lap 19, there will reportedly be a standing ovation, as the number 19 was Hubert’s racing number.

Some of the teams even opted for a visual tribute, by placing a sticker on their cars, with the words, “Racing for Anthoine”.

Meanwhile, Juan Manuel Correa continues to recuperate in hospital, and he is reportedly in a stable condition. However, he is still in Intensive Care, though the signs are positive.

Back with the F1 teams, all eyes will be focused on the Belgian Grand Prix 2019, in just under half an hour. The Ferraris of Charles LeClerc and Sebastian Vettel locked out the front row in an effort to win their first race of the season. However, the Mercedes pair are right behind them, with Max Verstappen 5th and a usually fast-starting Kimi Raikkonen in 6th.
