Preparations for the 2019 Hungarian Grand Prix this weekend got off to a bad start for Renault F1. The French outfit confirmed that one of their transporter trucks was involved in an accident. The incident took place as the truck headed to Hungary from Hockenheim for the next round of the 2019 Formula 1 world championship.

The truck left the Hockenheim paddock on Sunday night after the race wrapped up, which was standard procedure. While the heavy duty vehicle was headed for Budapest for the coming weekend’s Hungarian Grand Prix, it crashed. Images showed that it ploughed through safety barriers with the tractor unit and half of the trailer ended up sticking out on a grassy verge.

A day after the frantic race, the team confirmed the good news that the driver escaped any injury. Also, the truck was the only vehicle involved in the accident, which was perplexing, as to how the accident occurred.

“We confirm that a Renault F1 Team truck was involved in an accident on the M1 in Hungary, near Gyor,” the team said in a statement.

“The driver, who was driving within the respected regulations, was extracted from the vehicle. He is conscious and has not suffered serious injury.

“He has been transported to hospital in Hungary for further checks. No other vehicles were involved in the incident.”

Luckily, the vehicle has since been recovered and is hopefully on its way to Budapest. What still remains a mystery is the contents nestled inside the truck and whether they emerged unscathed.

At Hockenheim, the Renault team were fairly competitive with Nico Hulkenberg even fighting for what could have been his maiden podium. Sadly, he was caught out and crashed out of the race at the final corner. Teammate Daniel Ricciardo fared no better as his engine let go much earlier.
