Haas F1 boss Guenther Steiner was recently spotted in Warsaw, according to Polish public television TVP. This sparked off whispers that Robert Kubica could get his second wind, as a test driver for the American outfit.

According to the report, the Haas boss was meeting representatives of PKN Orlen, a Polish oil company. The company is the primary backer of the current Williams F1 driver Robert Kubica.

Unfortunately, the Pole will not be renewing his contract with Williams at the end of the season. In addition to that, PKN Orlen is tipped to switch its allegiance to Haas, and a move to the team by Robert Kubica is not far behind.

“A lot depends on the possibilities and what I will be doing as a basic thing next year,” he said at Suzuka.

“Once it is clear what I will do mainly, what sporting programme I have, I will see if it can be combined with something or not.”

PKN Orlen’s communications boss, Adam Burak confirmed that talks with “several Formula 1 teams” are still taking place.

“There is not a day when we do not see each other, talk with each other on the phone or correspond with representatives of several F1 teams.”

Robert Kubica returned to the fray after nearly a decade, following his near career-ending accident. His journey back to racing and even Formula One has been nothing short of something out of a movie script. Sadly, reality slapped him in the face several times, as he struggled to keep up with the pack and even his teammate George Russell.

Although he managed to scrounge Williams‘ only point of the season so far, he was consistently beaten by Russell. It didn’t help matters that the car was well and truly terrible and embarrassingly off the pace.
