Robert Kubica has been ousted from the Williams F1 team for the 2020 season, likely to be replaced by Nicholas Latifi. However, according to the rumour mill, the Polish driver may not be completely done with Formula One.

In fact, Haas F1 team principal Guenther Steiner confirmed that Kubica is on the team’s wish list for 2020 and beyond. However, it is entirely plausible that the 34-year old will likely not get a race seat at all. Instead, a development driver role for 2020 would possibly be more of his speed.

Interestingly, Robert Kubica has been linked with two teams, namely Haas and Racing Point. So, the bidding war between them for the Pole’s services in a reserve role should get feisty.

Following the US Grand Prix, Kubica admitted that his situation had become “more complicated, but it also means that I have interesting options.”

Other potential suitors include Scuderia Ferrari who believe that the 34-year-old can play the development driver role. However, the Maranello squad can not only use him for the works team, but also for Alfa Romeo.

Unfortunately, one snag is that, if Haas acquire his services, they may not be willing to share. Another theory states that Kubica’s potential Haas’ development role may be a stepping stone to a race seat for 2021. However, given that the Polish driver is on the wrong side of 30, it could be highly unlikely, unless they were desperate.

“I really want to bring Robert to us, but I have to offer him something that will be interesting to him,” Steiner said. “We would love Kubica to help us develop the car. We know he is really good at that because he worked with several of our engineers from his time at Renault.

“Everyone appreciates his skills very highly. I am negotiating with Kubica, and I hope to welcome him on board soon.”
