Kimi Raikkonen picked up where Antonio Giovinazzi left off the previous day in Hungary testing. The Finnish veteran put Ferrari on top of the time sheets on the final morning. But right behind him was a certain Robert Kubica.

On day 1, test driver Giovinazzi set the unofficial track record at the Hungaroring. Raikkonen was more than two seconds faster than anyone with a best lap of 1:16.171. Leading the chasing pack was Williams reserve driver Kubica. This is the Pole’s latest outing in the team’s underperforming FW41 car.

The Williams team currently prop up the tail end of the Constructors’ Championship with four points. The Grove-based team spent day 1 gathering data on the 2019 regulations. They achieved this when they ran a new-look ‘simplified’ front wing.

Meanwhile, Indonesian driver Sean Gelael was back in the Toro Rosso after crashing out during Pirelli tyre testing duties. This time, he was conducting more work specific running for the team. He ended the morning shift in fourth place ahead of Mercedes junior George Russell.

The German outfit suffered a minor setback in the form of a gearbox glitch on Day One. Fortunately, Russell enjoyed a smoother start to Wednesday’s session.

Day One star Giovinazzi swapped Ferrari overalls for Alfa Romeo-Sauber ones for today. The Swiss team could soon be offering the Italian driver a full-time F1 seat next year. He was sixth fastest with a best time of 1:19.413, 3.7s slower than his record-breaking lap.

At the Red Bull camp, Jake Dennis took the RB14 for a spin. This is his second running in the car since the previous in-season test after the Spanish GP.
