World No.3 Roger Federer is all set to start his Shanghai Rolex Masters 2019 action on Tuesday as the Swiss revealed in the pre-tournament press conference that he physically feels fresher than the last year.

Roger Federer explained that he recovered from issues in his back after the US Open 2019 and was a hundred percent fit for the Laver Cup 2019 last month. However, the Swiss maestro revealed that he always had a stiff back during the previous editions of the three-day event.

The 20-time Grand Slam champion told the reporters in Shanghai: “I recovered well from my back stuff at the US Open this year, but it took me about 10 days, much longer than I thought. But then for the Laver Cup, I was 100% again, whereas in previous Laver Cups I always had a stiff back I knew it.”

The Basel native further explained that as the ATP season comes closer to the end, the weather gets colder which could have an effect on a player’s body.

He added: “Sometimes the year-end can create that as we’re heading into fall and the weather gets colder. I’m not sure if that has an effect with it. I’m actually quite upbeat about that because when you’re more pain-free, you’re happier in general, I believe.”

The 2014 and 2017 champion further explicated that the draw is tough at the Shanghai Masters 2019 but the Swiss is confident about his performance as he feels like he still has a good amount of energy left in him.

“I hope it’s going to help me, but, you know, the draw is tough here. It also depends on your opponents a little bit. It’s not just every match on my racquet, unfortunately, but I feel like I have good energy left in the tank, you know, to go and finish strong,” Federer concluded.

Roger Federer will open his Shanghai Rolex Masters 2019 campaign against Spain’s Albert Ramos Vinolas on Tuesday after receiving a bye in the first round.
