Roger Federer was defeated by the South African, Kevin Anderson in a thrilling five-setter 6-2, 7-6, 5-7, 4-6, 11-13 in his 16th Wimbledon Championships quarterfinal match. The Swiss suffered his earliest exit at the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) since his shock second-round exit in 2013 when he was defeated by Sergiy Stakhovsky.

It is very rare to see Roger Federer on the losing side after he conquered the first two sets. However, Kevin Anderson, who was playing his first quarterfinals at the All England Lawn Tennis Club rallied with aggression from the third set as he saved one match point to stun the 8th time Wimbledon Champion and reached his first semifinals at the Wimbledon Championships.

“I was very happy that I got off to the right start of the match and was able to take control, somewhat, of the game,” said Federer after his shock defeat against the South African. “I just don’t know exactly how I couldn’t create more opportunities once the third set came around.”
