Roger Federer and Mirka Federer have been married to each other for the last 10 years but the Swiss maestro still remembers the pair’s first kiss 20 years ago.

Twenty-times grand slam champion Roger Federer’s first kiss came at the age of 18 with a girl named Mirka Vavrinec, who was two years his senior, during the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.

The pair shared a dorm room in the athletes’ village while representing Switzerland at the 2000 Sydney Olympics and an affair of the hearts started between the two tennis stars.

Recalling his time during the 2000 Summer Olympics in Australia, Roger Federer said during an interview in Buenos Aires, “We had two weeks with the Swiss delegations with all the athletes. We were sharing the house with the wrestlers – the strongest guys, so we were safe. And the tennis team, I spend a lot of time with Mirka there as well, she was part of the team but more just friendly, having a good time.”

The 38-year-old then cast his mind back to their last day in Sydney when the couple kissed for the first time, a night before departing for their destinations respectively. However, Federer revealed that they were not sure about where it is going to take them but after almost two decades the two are happily married with four children.

“On the last day of the evening before she went to Tokyo and I went back to Switzerland, we kissed and we didn’t know where it was gonna take us but here we almost 20 years later. And we have four children and married and happier than ever. So it was a good kiss,” Federer recollected.

Talking about his experience of representing his country at the Olympics, Roger Federer said: “It was a huge honor for me to represent the country in Sydney and I ended up actually playing a great tournament. I finished fourth, had two tough losses at the end, lost in the semis against Tommy Haase then the bronze medal match as well. I was left with nothing. But it was already an amazing achievement to get so close to a medal.”
