Roger Federer Says he is Surprised by Conditions at ATP World Tour Finals 2019

Six-time champion Roger Federer reveals that the court conditions at the ATP World Tour Finals 2019 are faster than the previous editions.

Roger Federer suggested that the quick conditions at The O2 Arena in London are ideal for his game as he aims to win a record seventh title at the ATP World Tour Finals 2019 and first since 2011.

In an interview with the SRF Sport, Roger Federer showed no shine of losing his shine as the Swiss maestro explicated that he has regained his energy after some time off following his record 10th title at the Swiss Indoors Basel 2019.

He said: “I‘m feeling good, shut down the whole system after Basel, now I re-started the engine. I Still have a lot of energy left, that was exactly the plan.”

The 38-year-old further disclosed that he felt that the courts are faster in London than previous years and feels the fast courts give him an advantage.  He expects that the faster court will keep the points shorter and the service will play an important part in the game.

“When I came here I was positively surprised that conditions are fast and not slow like they were in previous years. I feel like the court allows to keep the rallies short with a good and dominant serve and immediately searching for the point,” the World No.3 noted.

Roger Federer is drawn with defending runner-up Novak Djokovic, Dominic Thiem and debutant Matteo Berrettini in the Bjorn Borg group at the Nitto ATP Finals 2019.

He will open his campaign for the fifth and his biggest title of the 2019 season against Dominic Thiem on the Centre Court of the O2 Arena on Sunday.

Last year, the 20-time Grand Slam champion bowed to the next-generation star and the eventual champion Alexander Zverev in the semifinals of the year-end event.
