Roger Federer – “We Need Guys Like Andy Murray”

The Swiss tennis legend, Roger Federer is delighted to have Andy Murray back on the professional tour of tennis. He feels that the Briton’s return will have a positive impact on men’s game. “It was great to see him again and just chat with him for a little bit,” Federer told the reporters at Shanghai Masters. 

Roger Federer believes the men’s circuit needs players like Andy who are disciplined and endeavoring on the professional surfaces. “I think it’s super exciting for the Tour and for us players because he’s very much a guy we like and respect a lot. Doesn’t have enemies,” Federer added.

“We need guys like him who also lead by example with hard work and toughness and fairness. I love seeing Andy back. I also feel like he’s playing better and better, which is going to be great.” Murray and Federer put up the show on the ATP circuit for 25 times and produced a few thrilling encounters on the big courts of tennis.

The Swiss holds an upper-hand in their rivalry by three matches. The duo last locked horns at Cincinnati Masters 2015. At ATP Cup 2020, Switzerland and Great Britain placed in the same group and the tennis fans would get to witness, Federer vs Murray action in Australia.

For the first time this year, the Brit attained his back to back victories on the ATP Tour at the China Open 2019. In Beijing, he lost to the top seed, Dominic Thiem in the quarterfinals. 

“I’m playing well enough to be competitive at this level against all of the players,” Murray articulated after his defeat in Beijing. “Maybe not quite consistent enough just now to beat maybe the top players. But I think against guys that are No. 10 or No. 20 in the world, I can compete well against them just now.”

On Monday, Murray will get on board for the Shanghai Rolex Masters 2019 and will be opening against the Argentine, Juan Ignacio Londero. Londero reached the fourth round of French Open this year and fell to the ultimate champion, Rafael Nadal.

The second seed, Roger Federer will open against the Belgian, David Goffin or the Frenchman, Richard Gasquet.
