Rohit Sharma Asks Rishabh Pant to ”Create A Wall” Around Himself

Rishabh Pant has been in the news throughout 2019. The youngster, who made a promising debut, ended up being on the receiving end for his poor form. He failed to leave his mark in the limited-overs format and faced criticism from everyone. While talking about this, India’s limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma said that he gave some advice to Pant.

Rohit wanted Pant to shut himself out from all the things have been going outside the world and focus only on his performance. Moreover, the flamboyant opener asked the youngster to create a wall around himself and also not to allow anyone to disturb that space.

However, Rohit thought that move would help the wicketkeeper-batsman of India. This process helped him in the past as well when he was in the limelight for his poor form in the longer format of the game.

“In fact, I was telling Pant the same thing. Poor guy is only 21 (22) and people are telling him to score hundreds in every game, do this and do that. I mean cut some slack man. I told Rishabh ‘Create a wall’ and ensure that nobody comes inside. It’s your safe-house,” said Rohit Sharma while speaking to PTI. “People want to talk about you, let them do it outside that wall and you do what you intend to do inside your zone’. Who knows, it might help Rishabh. It worked for me at least.”

Rishabh Pant lost his place in the Test squad against South Africa at home where Wriddhiman Saha has replaced him and he has proved his worth too. But, the selector, MSK Prasad backed him. He shared his rough patch with the bat might have been reflecting on his keeping too. He further added that the youngster should work on his mental state to counter this problem.

Pant is currently playing the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. He will try to use the opportunity the most, as Sanju Samson is there to enter into the playing XI. As the ICC T20 World Cup 2020 around the corner, his consistency will play an important role for India.
