Somebody had to break Lorenzo’s momentum after his four consecutive wins and it was his teammate Valentino Rossi who started from the pole position and stayed in the lead for the majority of the time. This was Rossi’s first win with a pole start in six years.

This was a big race for Marc Marquez as well, after his consecutive crashes in the previous races. Jorge Lorenzo picked up the pace as well and attained the third position on a very technical track but was unable to catch up with Rossi and Marquez ahead of him.

Battle for first

The battle for first between Rossi and Marquez was one of the best battles seen in a very long time. Rossi had to stay at the top of the rankings with a significant amount of score gap from Jorge Lorenzo, who seemed unstoppable after four consecutive wins. On the other hand, Marquez had to get himself back in the game since he was left far behind at just 69 points due to four crashes in the 2015 MotoGP races.

Rossi maintained the lead in the most part and made sure he didn’t vacate the inside lane for Marquez to overtake. The gap mostly stayed near half a second till Marquez sneaked from the inside lane near the chicane and moved ahead of Rossi.

There were just seven laps remaining and the ‘93’ Repsol fans stood up from their seats while Rossi tried to take back the lead. Laps passed and as the end of the race approached, it seemed that Marquez was going to win this one just like he did last year. Two laps remained and Rossi overtook Marquez by braking late and going from the inside.

It was the chicane again, when Marquez tried to sneak from the inside again and his front tyre hit Rossi’s body to push him on the outside and go wide. Valentino Rossi pushed towards the gravel crossed the corner, finishing the race with a big old wheelie as Marquez followed him.
