Former cricketer-turned-commentator Sanjay Manjrekar has expressed regrets on his recent comments on Harsha Bhogle on live TV.

In the recently concluded pink ball test match between India and Bangladesh, Manjrekar and Bhogle were discussing the visibility of the pink ball. While Manjrekar felt that the visibility would not be an issue, Harsha Bhogle insisted on confirming it with the players.

Manjrekar then came out with the words that he now regrets saying. “You need to ask perhaps, for us, those who have played the game, we have a fair idea of what’s happening out there,” he said on air.

These comments weren’t taken kindly by the listeners, many of whom, took to social media to express themselves.

Manjrekar did not make any statements regarding his comments then, but he now admits that what he did was “wrong”  and “unprofessional.”

“With that particular comment, it was me losing control and I was unprofessional, I was wrong. It is something that I regret, it was wrong of me so that is what really bothers me that I let my emotions get the better of me,” Manjrekar said on ESPNCricinfo’s videocast.

“So mostly being unprofessional and to an extent indecent as well. First thing that I did was apologise to the producers because I was wrong. People who have read my book know that I have actually made plea for production companies to have good commentators, doesn’t matter whether they have played cricket or not.”
