One of the most hyped names in the racing community is Mick Schumacher, son of Michael Schumacher. The German driver is currently competing in Formula 2 and is lying in 4th place in the Championship.

To make matters even better, the Prema driver has bagged two podiums at the Hungaroring.

There has been plenty of talk about him eventually reaching in Formula One, and Scuderia Ferrari is keeping an eye out. Team Principal Mattia Binotto has admitted that the youngster is performing well.

The Italian believes that Schumacher Jr.’s performances have improved with respect to his display last year. Binotto acknowledged that the Ferrari Academy driver has made incredible progress, but has been unlucky in a few instances.

Admittedly, the Ferrari boss has been very coy on Schumacher Jr.’s chances of entering Formula One. He insisted that it is too early to make such a decision, so they are assessing his overall performance in the F2 Championship.

The 50-year-old even spoke of Mick Schumacher’s surge in the 2020 Formula 2 season. However, nobody knows whether he can go the distance and win the title.

According to him, “If we think he has made enough progress as a whole, he will be in a Formula 1 car. He just has to go on as before. Then we will make a decision later in the season.”

However, Mick Schumacher is aware that he is not the only one vying for a promotion to the big leagues. He has to fend off fellow academy drivers like Callum Ilott, Marcus Armstrong, and Giuliano Alesi.

Another stern contender is Schumacher’s Prema teammate Robert Shwartzman, who won two of the six previous races. In addition to that, he is leading the 2020 F2 Championship.

Schumacher also has to worry about Armstrong and Alesi, who are 6th and 14th on the table.
