It has been more than a week and the Canadian Grand Prix 2019 is still the talk of the town. To be more specific, the incident between Ferrari driver, Sebastian Vettel and Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton. Even the subsequent penalty handed to Vettel, was a much debated affair.

Sebastian Vettel took the chequered flag first, but a 5-second time penalty relegated him to 2nd. Now, the Scuderia Ferrari team has elected to review the 5-second time penalty. Initially, they appealed to the FIA to reconsider, before withdrawing it and opting to review it instead. A review is only possible in the case of new evidence being produced.

However, Ferrari chose to maintain their silence on what sort of evidence they were handing to the FIA. A Ferrari spokesperson told BBC, “Due to the sensitivity of the matter, we are not giving any further details,”

This new evidence will then be examined, either by the same stewards in Canada, who awarded the penalty, or a new panel. During the race, Sebastian Vettel ran wide and scrambled back on track, nearly putting a startled Lewis Hamilton in the wall. Evidently, the stewards decreed that the German had rejoined in an unsafe manner and slapped him with the penalty.

Since he was unable to stretch out a decent gap to the Mercedes, Sebastian Vettel lost a well-deserved win. However, the review will be heard at the next race at the Circuit Paul Ricard in France. So, while Ferrari worries about that, Vettel will have to shift his focus back to the track and the French Grand Prix.

Hopefully for his and Ferrari’s sake, he challenges Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas for the win, and keeps his nose clean. The last thing that the Maranello outfit need is another penalty, or God forbid, a wrecked Ferrari SF90.
