Lewis Hamilton has been criticised often, for his stance on the environment, with some feeling that it is a bit rich coming from a racing driver. However, there have been quite a few who have thrown their support behind the Briton’s views, including Sebastian Vettel.

A number of Hamilton’s contemporaries have thrown their support over his recent social media posts about the environment. In fact, his rival, Sebastian Vettel was of the opinion that Formula one should do more to help.

Now, during the pre-race press conference, Hamilton responded to his critics. Even the other drivers on the panel largely supported the views put forward by Hamilton on social media.

Speaking to the media, Sebastian Vettel said, “I’m not active on social media, but the point is very clear.”

“You would be ignorant if you wouldn’t look at it. As Lewis said, it’s difficult for us to get acceptance from the outside because we don’t have the smallest footprint.”

“The races happen around the world, we have to travel so it’s part of our jobs. But in general, F1 should do more. It’s a worldwide operating platform, and I think we should send a much stronger message.”

“I think everybody can do something. Contribute a little bit. If the whole world acted like that it would be a huge difference.”

Meanwhile, local hero Sergio Perez praised Hamilton for using his social platforms to help raise awareness. According to him it is important to raise one’s voice, especially someone like Hamilton, who can influence people.

He continued, “A lot of people are following him. If we can impact the world, help a bit, we are obliged to do so. I don’t see anything wrong with that.”
