Former World No.1 Serena Williams has been extremely successful in her quest to achieve a perfect balance between sports, business, and personal life.

The 23-time Grand Slam winner has perfectly kept herself in good shape in order to be competitive on the tennis tour. Moreover, she has also kept track of all the business activities. However, she didn’t let her professional life disturb her personal life. How did Williams manage to find the perfect blend of her professional and personal life?

“I just need to turn my brain off” – Serena Williams

Williams has trained herself to be focused when she’s working — that’s clear with her achievements. However, she is also focused on when she is “not working”. When she’s not working, whether it’s her ventures or whether it’s tennis, she shuts off.

“Something I do every day is to completely turn my brain off, which sounds weird but because I work so much between tennis and running my other properties—Serena Ventures and Serena Clothing. But it’s a lot so I just need to turn my brain off and not think about anything,” Williams told CNBC Make It.

The 38-year-old focuses on doing things that keep her on the ground. She knows that there is life outside the tennis court and spotlight. This also helps her to stay attached with her family.

“It really helps me to focus on Olympia and focus on the moment and not think about anything else,” she added. “And I purposely do that with her because I know that I just need to shut off.”

Serena is extremely committed to the time she spends at work. However, she is equally committed to the time she spends at rest and recovery. Hence, Williams is focused on both her physical and mental stability. It’s not just resting your body, it’s also resting your mind.

It is certainly the only way anyone can perform at the top level so consistently and under so much scrutiny. We should certainly take some inspiration from the legend to find the right balance in our life.
