Serena Williams is laser-focused on one objective alone- to get her hands on a record-equalling 24th Grand Slam. She took a step closer to achieving that dream by defeating Greek player Maria Sakkari 3-6, 7-6(6), 6-3 to proceed to the quarter-final.

With her fourth-round win over Sakkari, Williams is just four victories away from achieving that feat and setting an Open-era record. Incidentally, the American has had such a distinguished career that she set another impressive record with her latest win.

As Williams continued her march towards the US open crown, she made another mark in the sport’s record book. Before her match against Sakkari, she had a win/loss record of 99/13 in the Arthur Ashe Stadium. Now, Serena is the first player ever to record an astonishing 100 career wins in the Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Arthur Ashe is one of the most prestigious arenas in tennis. Home to the US Open, it’s hardly surprising that Williams boasts of such a dominant record in the stadium. After all, she has won six Majors there. In fact, she won her first-ever Grand Slam title in Arthur Ashe at the US Open in 1999.

Unsurprisingly, Roger Federer ranks second in that with 77 wins and 11 losses. This is one record Roger will have to forget about conquering. It is highly unlikely the Swiss maestro will ever manage to catch Serena in this regard.

While there is no doubt Serena will be glad to hold such an esteemed record, she won’t be celebrating just yet. The 23-time Major winner has eyes only for one record and she is single-mindedly marching towards it.

Serena Williams now awaits the winner of the fourth-round clash between Alizé Cornet and Tsvetana Pironkova. Having lost to Sakkari just last week at the Cincinnati Masters, Williams displayed her renewed determination to finally equal Margaret Court’s tally of 24 Majors.

Moreover, with players like Sofia Kenin and Victoria Azarenka in her half of the draw, fans will be hopeful of seeing a blockbuster semi-final clash.
