<h2 style="text-align: center">Who is Dominic Thiem? </h2>
Born on September 3, 1993, Dominic Thiem is a professional tennis player who was born in Wiener Neustadt but resides in Lichtenworth, Austria. He is currently ranked 90th in the men’s ATP rankings but has been ranked as high as world number 3 in March 2020. His biggest triumph came at the 2020 US Open, where he defeated Alexander Zverev in the final. With the win, Thiem became the first male player born in the 1990s to win a tennis major and also the first Austrian to win the US Open slam. Overall, he has won 17 ATP singles titles and finished as runner-up three times (one at the Australian Open and two at the French Open), to go with losing two year-end ATP Finals. Thiem has been dating Lili Paul-Ronacli, a professional dancer and performer who hails from Germany. The couple started dating in 2019, and since then they have been together.

Dominic Thiem took to tennis like fish to water, as both his parents - Wolfgang and Karin Thiem were tennis coaches themselves. The former world number 3 also has a younger brother, Moritz Thiem, who is also a professional tennis player. Dominic began playing tennis when he was six years old, and his father took a job at the Grunter Bresnik’s academy in Vienna in 1997. Bresnik began coaching Thiem at the age of nine and had previously worked with Boris Becker, Henri Leconte, Patrick McEnroe, and Ernest Gulbis. He is well-known for his unconventional techniques and recommended that Dominic convert his two-handed backhand into a single hand. In 2017, the results got better, as he once again made it to the semifinals of the French Open and made it to the fourth round of all the other three majors. 2020 was the best season for Dominic Thiem as a tennis player. The season was curtailed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the Austrian tennis player registered 25 wins, compared to only nine losses. This also included his maiden Grand Slam title at the US Open in New York, in the final against <a href="https://www.essentiallysports.com/tag/alexander-zverev/">Alexander Zverev</a>. He also reached the finals of the Australian Open, losing to eventual champion Novak Djokovic. He reached the quarterfinals of the French Open and finished the season strong, as he made it to the final of the ATP Finals against <a href="https://www.essentiallysports.com/tag/daniil-medvedev/">Daniil Medvedev</a>. During the season, he earned $6 million in prize money and also reached his career-best ranking of number 3, displacing <a href="https://www.essentiallysports.com/tag/roger-federer/">Roger Federer</a>.

In 2021, Dominic Thiem reached the fourth round of the Australian Open but opted out of the Monte Carlo Masters, seeking a break. He struggled right through the clay season, exiting in the first round of the French Open. He then pulled out of Wimbledon owing to the wrist injury, and the same reason led him out of defending his US Open title in New York to recover completely from the injury.

Thiem made his comeback from a career-threatening wrist injury in March 2022 at the ATP Challenger in Marbella, Spain. After losing the first seven matches, he decided to opt out of the grass court season to work on his fitness. He later won matches in Salzburg and the Bastad Open and also made it to the semi-finals in Antwerp.

In 2024, Thiem participated at the Brisbane International, where he faced Spaniard Rafael Nadal and was beaten in straight sets. His Australian Open campaign was also cut short by Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, who defeated him in Round 1 in a match that lasted for five hours and stretched to five sets. Thiem later turned out for Austria in the World Group-1 playoffs in the Davis Cup. He then participated in the UTS Tour in Oslo but had to withdraw later due to food poisoning.
