India opener, Shikhar Dhawan gave his thoughts on the 15-member Indian contingent heading for the 2019 Cricket World Cup. He believes that the ‘strong’ World Cup team can produce great results.

Shikhar Dhawan himself has been included in the squad that will travel to England in May. Skipper Virat Kohli hopes that he will lead the Men in Blue to their third World Cup triumph. They last won it back in 1983 and later in 2011, so Kohli hopes to make it lucky number three.

In the build up to the tournament, hosts England and defending champions Australia are the favourites. However, Shikhar Dhawan truly believes that the Indian team can excel on the big stage.

However, the 2019 World Cup is still some time away and the IPL 2019 tournament is raging on. Shikhar Dhawan now plays for the Delhi Capitals after moving from the Sunrisers Hyderabad. So far, Delhi are lying in 2nd, tied with the Mumbai Indians and the Kings XI Punjab.

Shikhar Dhawan even spoke about the influence of Sourav Ganguly and Ricky Ponting within the team.

Shikhar Dhawan continued, “The support of Ponting and Ganguly has been great. They have experience as captains and instil great belief in us,”.

“At the same time, the young boys in our team are also getting mature. It has been a good season for us.”

“It’s a clean slate for the Delhi franchise [previously known as Delhi Daredevils], new name, new administration, new support staff.”

“Our team is strong and balanced with good overseas and Indian players. The way we are performing is good.’

He even spoke about missing out on a century against the Kolkata Knight Riders. However, he insisted that he was not too upset as the team won the match.

‘I was not thinking of the century, it was more important to win the match.’

‘At that time it was important to hold on to my wicket and take the team over the line because we had lost a couple of matches from a winning position.’
