“Shoot for the Stars”: Andy Murray Ambitious to Win Another Grand Slam After US Open 2020 Loss

Andy Murray remained confident despite being outclassed by 20-year-old Felix Auger-Aliassime in the second round of the US Open 2020. The three-time Grand Slam winner’s US Open series ended, but he bows out of the tournament with some positives. Murray also exuded confidence in his abilities to win another Grand Slam, despite being far from his best.
“I would say even after tonight, like, I would say I’m more positive about what I could do in Grand Slams than I was before I came over here,” Murray said after his defeat on Thursday.
“I mean, you know, you guys obviously don’t know how I was feeling even just a couple of months ago,” he added.

Will Andy Murray win another Grand Slam?
He gave his verdict on if he thinks he will win another Grand Slam. Murray admitted it will be a tall ask, but will certainly not stop trying.
“In terms of winning Grand Slams again, that’s going to be extremely difficult to do. It was hard enough when I had two normal hips. So it will be difficult, but I’ll keep trying, like, why not?” Murray expressed.

“Why shouldn’t I try my hardest to do that? And if I don’t, that’s all right. But I might as well shoot for the stars. And if I don’t – yeah, if I don’t get there, then that’s all right. But I’m trying my best to get the most out of what my body gives me now,” he continued.

More match experience will be the key
The Briton looked worn out after an epic 4-hour 39-minute first-round clash, but admitted he started better than he thought. He said that more matches under his belt are what he needs to improve his fitness. Once he has that, Murray believes he will be able to recover much better from long matches.
“I think the more tournaments that you play, the more matches that you play, you build up that sort of robustness in your body, which right now I don’t really have,” Murray expressed.

The 2012 US Open champion also said that he will not play the Italian Open in Rome that starts a week after the US Open ends. It has been three years since Andy Murray stepped onto a clay court. He will most likely play the French Open directly, which starts on September 21.
