Two-time Grand Slam champion Simona Halep hopes for better fortune in 2020 with the appointment of the former Romanian tennis player Artemon Apostu-Efremov in her coaching team.

Efremov will be working with Simona alongside her current coach, Darren Cahill. “Welcome to the madhouse, Arti. Happy to have you in the team,” Halep announced.

Efremov previously coached numerous tennis players from Romania, which includes WTA players like Irina-Camelia Begu and Mihaela Buzarnescu. Also, Albot Radu was the only non-Romanian player with whom he worked. On the professional tennis tour, Efremov reached his highest ATP singles ranking of World Number 310 in 2002.

The Australian coach Cahill was in tandem with Simona Halep in 2018. They together claimed the French Open title and remarked Halep’s Grand Slam breakthrough.

After her Rogers Cup title victory in Canada and while Simona was ranked number one in the world, Cahill and Halep parted ways. Coach Cahill was not interested in a traveling job, wanted to stay home and spend time with his family but Cahill coached Halep at WTA Finals 2019 in Shenzhen, China.

However, with Cahill’s absence Simona Halep did not stop shining on the WTA Tour. She clinched the most prestigious title of tennis, Wimbledon under Daniel Dobre’s tutelage in 2019. Despite their triumphant run on the WTA circuit in 2019, Halep and Dobre officially terminated their coaching partnership.
