Simona Halep To Be Honoured A Boulevard in Bucharest’s Downtown

After spending the happiest hour of his life on Wimbledon’s Centre Court, Simona Halep received a heroic welcome in Romania. About 30,000 citizens of the Romanian capital, Bucharest surrounded Halep upon her return from London and the public solely chanted ‘Simona!’. Later, similar celebrations were persisting in Halep’s home city, Constanta.

Bucharest’s mayor, Gabriela Firea initiated a project in which a public space in the Romanian capital’s downtown will be named as ‘Simona Halep Esplanade’. The discussions regarding the project will be held amongst the General Council of Bucharest on July 31, 2019.

“Considering the fact that Simona Halep is the first player from Romania that won in 2019 the Grand Slam tournament from Wimbledon, I submit for debate and approval to the General Council of Bucharest the project of decision regarding the attribution of the name Esplanada SIMONA HALEP to the public space placed at the intersection of George Enescu Square/ Calea Victoriei. Episcopiei Street and B. Franklin Street, sector 1, Bucharest”, the mayor wrote.

Halep’s exemplary tennis against the seven-time Wimbledon champion, Serena Williams, overwhelmed her fellow citizens. To commemorate her victory, Romanian state-owned company Romfilatelia issues a postage stamp named “Simona Halep, Romanian Tennis Ambassador.” One the stamps bear, Halep lifting up her Wimbledon 2019 crown, while another stamp presents the Halep’s signature in gold leaf.

Also, Halep was honored with Patriarchal Cross after Wimbledon triumph. “To many of today’s young people, Simona is a symbol of diligence, perseverance, and hope. We are happy to emphasize that all of her achievements are the expression of her native talent cultivated through effort, constant effort.” patriarch Daniel said while praising their native star.

Besides everything, her remarkable achievement earned her the highest distinction of the Romanian state, and the Romanian President, Klaus Iohannis will award her the highest-ranked Romanian award. Also, Halep will be the flag bearer for Romania at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and she vows for a medal for her nation at the Olympics.

On the WTA track, World Number four, Simona Halep will be entering the Canadian Premier five event, Rogers Cup as the defending champion. The ladies matches will be taking place in Aviva Centre in Toronto and the tournament will get underway on August 5, 2019.
