Rapinoe said, “I mean, I just can’t get to any other conclusion other than the WNBA is like tall and black and everyone thinks everyone’s gay. And think about the society that we live in. And they’re always compared to the counterpart, which is the NBA. And I think people in America have a much better knowledge of basketball than soccer traditionally and so I mean even when people say, ‘O you guys are so much better than the men’. And I’m like, ‘yeah’.”

She continued: “It’s really not the goal first of all and also it’s just like it’s just leaves out so much new onto like you know every, say a basketball guy thinks like he could be the best player in the WNBA and he just can’t. I think it’s really simple. I think that.”

She believes it was basketball athletes who were the first to protest if anything inappropriate happens. WNBA was the first to protest police brutality and inspired Rapinoe to take a knee during the national anthem.
