Wrexham AFC is in the headlines for obvious reasons. After 15 years of exile from the Football League, the club has finally won promotion to the EFL. The club has managed to defy all the odds, as they achieved a remarkable feat by becoming the champions of the National League in the 2022–23 season.

The whole soccer world witnessed their emphatic journey to cross the National League border. In fact, their fellow Hollywood friends also paid a visit to the stadium to see the Red Dragons in action. However, there was one time, when one of their guests almost got himself into big trouble!

Charlie Day is among the most renowned actors in the film industry. Maintaining good ties with McElhenney and Reynolds, the American star once came to see Wrexham in action. However, that almost didn’t end well, because Day almost got himself a criminal record.

This comes after the RobRyanRed podcast, where McElhenney revealed Day had come over to see their 3-0 win against Yeovil. But the actor got a warning from the police after he was seen drinking beer, which in England is strictly prohibited. “He was the only one to get busted drinking alcohol because he didn’t know. I mean, what people truly don’t understand is Americans we don’t understand that rule, we didn’t know that was a rule.”

He continued, “So he was sitting outside in the box drinking a beer and nobody noticed or didn’t say anything and somebody took a still frame and texted it to me. They said, ‘Get your boy off the balcony or you’re going to get a fine’, and, of course, he ran back inside because he had no idea what the law was and that’s something he’ll take to his grave.

McElhenney says Day, being a fellow American, wasn’t aware of their rule against bringing alcohol into a stadium. It is even prohibited at the posh seat as well. Either way, it’s good that the $30 million-rated star didn’t get himself into much trouble. Perhaps in the future, Day will be cautious about his visit to Wrexham. After all, McElhenney and Reynolds will own the club for the rest of their lives.

Wants to own Wrexham for the rest of their lives!

In a recent podcast interview with Fearless in Devotion, McElhenney discussed his and Reynolds’ vision for Wrexham. He emphasized that their focus would be on establishing a “sustainable business” for the Welsh club. “We look at the entire club as a massive investment and an investment in the club, investment in the town and an investment in the future.”

He insisted that they don’t want to put themselves or the club in a position where they are “just writing checks to keep the business of the club afloat.” Furthermore, the actor added, “so everything that we’ve done from the very beginning is to ensure that no matter who comes in and hopefully it’s us for the rest of our lives, that we are building a sustainable business.”

It is evident that McElhenney and Reynolds possess a genuine passion for the team. Moreover, their intentions go beyond mere financial gain. They are not seeking short-term profits; instead, they are demonstrating a sincere commitment to the club’s long-term success.
