The 2023 season of the NWSL is almost underway. A few days ago, the league released its much-awaited schedule for the fans. The entire season will last for about 26 weeks. With a grand total of 168 games in the National Women’s Soccer League, there will be no mid-week games. The season’s schedule also includes a break for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Unlike previous seasons, the teams will compete in the Challenge Cup during the regular season. The cup competition will continue during the World Cup break as well.

When does the 2023 NWSL regular season begin?

The league will officially commence on March 25, 2023. North Carolina Courage will compete against Kansas City Current for the first game of the 2023 edition. The ever-famous Washington Spirit will clash against OL Reign, Portland Thorns will battle against Orlando Pride and Houston Dash will compete against Louisville FC. Followed by the most famous clash of the weekend, Angel City FC vs NJ/NY Gotham FC.

The league schedule is stretched out a little further for this NWSL edition. This is because of the inclusion of the FIFA Women’s World Cup. The league will take a break from its regular schedule to accommodate the biggest global soccer tournament. While the regular season ends on October 15, the playoffs will commence on October 22. After the quarter-final round, the semi-finals will happen from November 4 onwards.

For the first time in four seasons, the 2023 UKG NWSL Challenge Cup will be simultaneously held with the regular season. There will be three groups with four teams each. Each team will play round-robin matches for six contests. The finals of the Challenge Cup will be on September 9.
