Soccer is an amazing game. An action-packed game of skills and mind games. Many matches can come to mind while thinking about close matches. But none can match the thrill, stakes, and emotions of the final of the 2022 World Cup. This match was ping-pong when it comes to the possibility of winning. The first 70 minutes of the game were completely one-sided and everybody thought that the match will be over in regular time. Nobody was ready for the marathon this match was going to turn out like. This match had extra time, which got tied again, and then a penalty shoot-out. One name that has a lot to do with how the match became a nail-biter is Kylian Mbappe.

Kylian Mbappe netted a hat-trick against Argentina and kept his nation’s hope alive for 120 minutes just on his young shoulders. The French prodigy not even scored but also motivated the team to do better.

Kylian Mbappe motivated France

Hadrien Grenier posted a video today which was filmed in the French dressing room during the halftime of the match. The French team was trailing by 2-0, as Messi and Di Maria had scored in the first half. His team’s performance had very much frustrated Mbappe, and he delivered a speech that sparked a comeback no one saw coming.

In the video, Mbappe was visibly angry and talking to his comrades. As translated by Sports bible, he said, “It’s the match of a lifetime. We can’t do worse, we come back on the pitch, we must pull it off. We conceded 2 goals, we can come back. F*k guys, this is once every 4 years, f*k!”

What happened next is an amazing story in itself. Mbappe himself scored two back-to-back goals in the 80th and 81st minutes. By the time regular time ended, both teams were standing at 2-2, and they still had extra time to fight.

Equalizer, a magical save, and heartbreak

Lionel Messi once again staked his claim as the greatest player when he scored in the 108th minute. The lead gained by Argentina lasted 10 minutes as Kylian Mbappe got a penalty and he dragged the score to 3-3. France had one chance in the last minutes of extra time to win it all, but the best goalkeeper in the world decided that this game will go to the penalties.
