Wrexham AFC emerged as the champions of the Vanarama National League, marking their return to EFL League Two after 15 years. The club’s popular owners, Ryan Reynolds, and Rob McElhenney, are now aiming for the Premier League and won’t forget this milestone.

Despite facing numerous challenges, they successfully crossed the finish line and secured a promotion. And now, The Red Dragons are focused on their next goal: securing another promotion within the Football League. While many doubt consecutive promotions, former Wrexham star Lee Fowler has backed his ex-club to achieve successive promotions.

After achieving his first promotion, Reynolds will be looking to keep his side energized for the upcoming League Two. Many have been backing them to clinch successive promotions. In fact, former Wales international and Wrexham star Lee Fowler also joined the bandwagon as he backs his former side.

As stated by the Leader, Fowler said it will be easier for Wrexham to clinch promotion, while bringing Luton Town in the process. “Look at Luton who are one game away from being in the Premier League,” said Fowler. “It is only 10 years since they got promoted from the Conference so why can’t Wrexham get promoted to the Premier League?

He continued by giving a host of examples of other clubs. “Bournemouth were in the old Division Three and got to the Premier League and so were Brentford.” Moreover, the former midfielder hailed the Red’s FA Cup run, saying they gave good competition to Sheffield United.

“You saw Wrexham go toe-to-toe with Sheffield United this season in the FA Cup and they got promoted to the Premier League, and it will be easier to go up next season with three going up automatically from League Two,” he added. It seems Fowler has full confidence in his former club. In fact, he had a harsh answer for the rivals who cast doubts on Wrexham’s promotion.

Slams rival clubs for pointing fingers at Wrexham’s promotion

While talking about his former side, he also slammed clubs who condemned the Red Dragons for buying the National League title. “Money doesn’t guarantee you success, although it certainly gives you a big chance,” said Fowler. “Luton, Crawley, Fleetwood, Salford and Stevenage had the biggest budget and got promoted so there is a method behind it.

When asked if clubs that don’t have financial backing frown upon, he said, “100 percent.” He added the Dragons didn’t had “riches for a number of years,” yet they were able to turn their fortunes around.

He also emphasized on the impact of coaches and players. “People are envious because of it but you have still got to have a manager to put it all together, and Phil did. There are more teams against Wrexham this year saying they bought the league. I would say there is about 50 per cent admiration and 50 per cent jealousy,” he said.

During the 2011-12 season, the Reds narrowly missed out on the title to Fleetwood Town, who spent lavishly. Fowler, who finished that season with Fleetwood after leaving the Racecourse, said that season was different from this year’s. “The rivalry was mainly Fleetwood against Wrexham that season. Fleetwood were a good team but from Wrexham’s point of view, they bought the league.”
