It’s safe to say that every soccer fan is now in love with Ryan Reynolds. The Deadpool star has been a pivotal figure in Wrexham AFC’s success in recent times. Initially, the soccer world hadn’t taken Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney seriously. The simple reason is that both of them had no connection to the game prior to this.

However, in retrospect, every action and step of theirs now makes sense. The celebrity duo was once in conversation with Jason Sudeikis. Sudeikis is the lead actor in Ted Lasso, one of the most popular soccer-based shows to date.

Many a time, fans have compared Reynolds’ Wrexham AFC journey to Ted Lasso.

The Wrexham co-owners once clashed with Ted Lasso!

Back in 2020, fans came across a whole new concept of a fictional soccer web series. ‘Ted Lasso’ was the name of the web series and it squashes the popular belief that Americans are not made for soccer. The story revolved around Jason Sudeikis, an American football coach who turned into an elite soccer professional manager over time.

The Wrexham co-owners were also planning to do a web series that would capture their entire journey of taking over the Welsh soccer club. The celebrity duo once crossed paths with Jason Sudeikis. They then realized that their upcoming show might directly compete with the likes of Ted Lasso.

As transcribed by Cinema Blend, McElhenney told the Hollywood Reporter, “Jason [Sudeikis] called me not about football at all but about working with Apple. Because Ted Lasso hadn’t even come out yet, and I have a show called Mythic Quest [on Apple]”. He continued, “So we were talking about what it’s like working with Apple, and we were just talking and swapping stories”. The co-owners then joked about wanting to release their show before Ted Lasso. But they had barely taken over Wrexham AFC at that point in time.

McElhenney said, “Then he asked what I was doing next, and I mentioned this football endeavor, and then he mentioned what his show was about and then I was like, Oh man, we’ve gotta get our show out before his show, but I think they beat us by like two years”. Looking back, everything around Reynolds’ takeover of Wrexham AFC happened in a timely manner.

The Wrexham co-owners incredible efforts at the club!

The Deadpool star’s success at Wrexham AFC has been nothing short of a dream. The Hollywood duo arrived at the club at its lowest point. The Welsh soccer side was financially struggling due to the aftereffects of the covid pandemic. However, Reynolds and McElhenney seriously appeared like angels out of nowhere. Both of them have immensely helped the club on and off the pitch. Recently, the Hollywood star posted a video on his Instagram about the renovation of the gym at the club. That video truly sent every fan who saw it into a frenzy.

However, that video was only a glimpse of Ryan Reynolds and his co-star’s hard work at the soccer club. Funnily enough, this Vanarama National League side is living the soccer dream even after being in the fifth tier of English soccer. However, Reynolds has promised everyone that he’ll make his soccer club an English Premier League side in the coming years.
