The Cristiano Ronaldo situation at Manchester had a rather sour ending. After the player returned to the theater that made his dreams, the second spell had a disappointing end. Moreover, his interview with journalist Piers Morgan proved to be the final nail in the coffin. The club mutually terminated his contract. And the new manager Erik Ten Hag is slowly building a team without Ronaldo. Looking back at the results, it’s safe to say things are going as planned.

In a recent interview, he explained how he loved to attack and defend with 11 players. When United signed Ronaldo, he was the key player of the team. But, Ten Hag failed to give him the start, and the player got unhappy. Therefore, in the interview, he recalled the issues he faced during Ronaldo’s time at United.

Erik Ten Hag explains why he didn’t incorporate Cristiano Ronaldo

Ten Hag explained the issue related to Ronaldo and how soccer philosophies are a part and parcel of the game. According to the Mirror, he stated, “You have to adapt, definitely, but for instance, for me, now football is about attacking with 11 players and defending with 11 players. So, if you ask me about full-backs, you find them sometimes in positions you don’t expect them. That’s what I like. I’m looking for that type of player.”

In the interview, he revealed how his soccer philosophy is to attack. Moreover, every manager depends on certain players to work out their system, and Ten Hag failed to find a place for Ronaldo. Although the philosophy remains intact, the players on the pitch take the blueprint and put it out to show. Therefore, the manager talked about players needing to adapt to his philosophy of playing.

Despite having a rather weak second spell at Manchester United, according to his standards, Ronaldo is a legend of the game.
