Bale’s family source said, “Gareth and Emma are shocked and really concerned that a gun was used to make threats. We don’t know why Emma’s aunt was targeted. They seemed to be asking for a haul of gold. It has left Emma’s aunt and her family terrified.”

There have been several such incidents in the past where soccer stars or their families were subject to robbery attempts. Most of the incidents happen when the players are out playing their matches. The recent incident with Pierre Emerick Aubameyang before his move to Chelsea highlights how unsafe a soccer star can be.

English star Raheem Sterling’s family, too, faced a similar fate when the player was in Qatar for the FIFA World Cup. They reported that his fiancee and two children were in the apartment when armed robbers broke in and stole cash. Despite spending huge amounts on security, soccer stars and their families keep facing such unfortunate incidents.

The former Real Madrid star made his move to the MLS side Los Angeles FC as a free agent. Bale has signed a one-year contract that will keep him at the LAFC until June 2023. However, the club has a clause to extend it for one more season.

Bale, widely regarded as one of the best wingers of this generation, helped LAFC to win the MLS Cup recently by scoring a 128th-minute equalizer. LAFC went on to win on the penalties and secured their first Cup title. The player has made occasional appearances for the franchise and will hope to turn things around this season starting in February.
