A few days ago, Cristiano Ronaldo shocked the soccer world by joining Al-Nassr F.C. Most soccer fans were not expecting the Portuguese star to accept the offer. It was publicly known that Ronaldo received an offer from America but the soccer star still chose Saudi Arabia as his next destination.

During the unveil, Ronaldo made it a point to tell the fans that he received offers from multiple clubs but he wanted to join Al-Nassr F.C. to help build the sport in Saudi Arabia. However, reports suggest that the Portuguese star will not be able to play his first game today.

Reports suggest that Ronaldo needs to still serve a ban that he received from the FA before leaving Manchester United.

Why is Cristiano Ronaldo banned?

According to DailyMail, Cristiano Ronaldo will not be allowed to play in Al-Nassr’s next game. The news emerges after the Saudi-based club sold all 28,000 tickets for their game against Al-Tai. The Portuguese star needs to serve his two-match ban. The incident causing the ban dates back to when Manchester United played Everton last season.

The former Real Madrid star smashed a fan’s phone to the ground while he was walking back into the tunnel. Ronaldo already apologized to the fan, but the soccer star was hit with a £50,000 fine and two-game suspension on 17 November 2022.

However, soccer fans are finding it hard to understand why the ban would still be applicable. The fans believe that the ban should only be applicable in places under the FA’s jurisdiction.

Ronaldo signed a two-and-a-half-year deal till 2025 as a player. Following that, Ronaldo will be an ambassador for Saudi’s upcoming soccer project. The Portuguese star will help Saudi Arabia to try and win the bid for hosting the 2030 World Cup. Saudi Arabia is reportedly joining hands with Greece and Egypt as partner hosts for the World Cup.

Cristiano Ronaldo went against all the odds and signed this deal. While he claims that this is a new project, in a country and so on, it still remains to be seen whether the deal actually materializes in the coming years.
