Until everyone can come out without it being a big deal, nobody gets to “just” live their lives. And the more people who come out, the more we break down the stereotypes of what it is to be gay.”

It would mess with the stereotypes about masculinity and femininity, just as if more women on my team came out. I’d hoped it would show there was more than one way to be gay.”

Megan Rapinoe is proud of her relationship with the famous basketball player Sue Bird. She is a major voice for the rights of the LGBTQ+ community.

The power couple- Rapinoe and Bird 

Megan Rapinoe shares a total of seven Olympic gold medals, with Sue Bird contributing six. They met during the 2016 Rio Olympics and got engaged in 2020. Megan Rapinoe, an advocate of the LGBTQ+ community had come out as gay in 2012, while Sue Bird came out in 2017 when she announced her relationship with Rapinoe.

She stated, “I’m gay. Megan’s my girlfriend. … These aren’t secrets to people who know me..” Megan Rapinoe had a public feud with then president Doland Trump during Black Lives Matter. Sue Bird had publically come to defend her partner and stated the hatred president had for her.
