Barcelona came into the game amid ongoing corruption charges. Their arch-rivals Real Madrid recently released an official statement saying they will participate in the procedure as an affected party. It sparked reactions from Barcelona fans, and anticipating a hostile welcome at Camp Nou, Madrid’s president didn’t travel to Camp Nou for the game. 

In the 81st minute, a goal scored by Madrid was choked off for a close offside. One of the Twitter handles posted the VAR image of the offside sparking reactions from the fans. Most of the fans quickly brought the Barcelona corruption charges into the discussion.

Second-half substitute, Frank Kessie, was found perfectly by Balde in the added time of the second half. Kessie’s goal turned out to be the winner as Barcelona end the game 2-1. They now have a 12-point lead on the top of the league table.
