After conducting the World Cup in Qatar, FIFA has stopped making the headlines. They just issued a ruling and imposed thousands of dollars on Mexico. Along with that, Mexico also has to forfeit the last 3 games. This is one of the bigger punishments FIFA has issued. They broke a couple of rules that were notified to the international governing body of soccer. These punishments can spell disaster for the Mexican team as they will affect the ranking of the team.
FIFA has been very active in issuing decisions on pending cases. A couple of these happened during WC. The organization faced open criticism from players and activists on abrupt decisions during the Qatar World Cup. Although FIFA had given many explanations over time, fans are still questioning them about Gianni Infantino’s press address just before WC kicks off, among other things.

FIFA released an official statement on the case stating, “FIFA can confirm that it has imposed a fine of CHF 10,000 on the Mexican Football Association for breaches of article 5 of the Regulations Governing the Application (RGAS) of the FIFA Statutes following the fielding of the player Alejandro Zendejas… Besides the fine, all matches have been declared forfeited. Based on the applicable provisions of the RGAS, the player remains, however, eligible to play for the representative teams of the USA.“
