Despite being ranked second on FIFA’s official rankings, Belgium failed to make it past the group stages in the World Cup. A draw at the hands of last edition’s runners-up, Croatia, all but confirmed the Red Devils’ exit. Romelu Lukaku missed a few chances for Belgium and faced the fans’ wrath on social media.

However, things could have been different had the star striker taken one of the many glorious chances in the closing stages of the game. The 29-year-old came on as a substitute in the second half to give impetus to his side but failed to put the ball in the net. Thus, after the final whistle, a distraught yet angry Lukaku smashed a glass screen with his fist, which caught the ire of fans on the internet.
