It was a massive win for the former European champions as they hope to bring the FIFA World Cup at home. Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo could win his 3rd silverware with the national team. He has already won the Euros and the Nations League. However, he reportedly threatened to leave the national team  when he didn’t start against Switzerland.

Cristiano Ronaldo started all three games for Portugal at the World Cup in the group stage. Portugal registered two wins from those three games and qualified for the knockouts. However, in the final game, Fernando Santos pulled him out of the game, which made the player unhappy. Later, Santos criticized Ronaldo for his gesture after substitution. In the next game, Ronaldo started on the bench.
