Pep Guardiola is one of the greatest managers of all time. His all-conquering FC Barcelona of 2009 was enough to cement his place among the best managers, but he didn’t stop there. Guardiola’s current Manchester City side is also breaking several records.

The Spanish manager did coach FC Bayern Munich before joining City and found much success there too. However, it wasn’t comparable to his time at City. Guardiola has won every single trophy in England, and the only thing missing from the trophy cabinet at the Etihad is the UEFA Champions League trophy.

Pep Guardiola always overthinks in the UCL

City did come close to winning the UCL last year but lost in the final against Chelsea. This time around, they’ll try to win it all again as they face Atletico Madrid in the Quarter-finals of the tournament.

Guardiola spoke about his tactics in the pre-match interview and addressed a stereotype that he has been stuck with. City’s losses in the UCL have been blamed on Guardiola’s overthinking and new ideas that just don’t work. However, the Spanish manager is not one to back down and revealed that he’ll use a new tactic tomorrow.

In the Champions League, I always overthink. I always create new tactics and ideas, and tomorrow you will see a new one. I overthink a lot; that’s why I have very good results in the Champions League. I love it. It would be boring if I always played the same way,” Guardiola said.

Guardiola plans to field 12 men against Atletico Madrid

He didn’t stop there and explained why he kept changing his tactics for the UCL. Guardiola reasoned that his teams line up against their opponents based on the opponent’s playing style. Moreover, Guardiola added that he would find some inspiration somewhere and put 12 men out on the pitch against Atletico.

Tonight I will take inspiration and I’m going to do incredible tactics tomorrow – we play with 12 tomorrow,” the Spanish manager joked.
