USMNT Stars Talks About the Team’s Mentality Ahead of the Qatar World Cup

It’s one of the most important years for international football as the World Cup is coming around. Qatar will be hosting the competition in November, and teams are gearing up for their biggest tests. The USMNT is no different and their journey will be followed extensively throughout the next few months.

Right now, they are going to play in the CONCACAF Nations League with their first match against Grenada coming up soon. They recently played two friendlies, winning one against Morocco and drawing with Uruguay. However, the Nations League is a different competition and requires a much stricter approach.

Reggie Cannon speaks about the USMNT mentality

USMNT star Reggie Cannon understands this and revealed the same in a pre-match press conference. The 23-year-old defender spoke about the team’s mentality ahead of the World Cup and how they will get that edge over other teams.

Cannon said that they cannot afford to lose an ounce of their focus and that every single match in Qatar needs to be played at the same high level of intensity.

We have to have the same approach to each game and I think that’s going to be a challenge for this group. You’re going to have to have the same approach and same mentality to every game [at the World Cup]. Can’t really lower that mentality, because those are when these teams are going to be the most dangerous,” Cannon said.

Kellyn Acosta shares his thoughts

Los Angeles FC midfielder Kellyn Acosta gave his input on the situation too. He revealed that the entire USMNT squad has that competitive drive within them that translates onto the field. They don’t go easy on each other in the training sessions and want to win every single time.

As players, we come into national camps ready to make an imprint of ourselves and having that competitive drive that’s already within us, that kind of translates on the field, I think for all of us, we’re all competitive, we’re all winners,” Acosta said.

It’ll be interesting to see if they can back this up with their performances, but things have been looking really good for the USMNT in recent months.
