Sourav Ganguly was elected unoppossed as the president of BCCI on Monday. Since then, he has talked about his priorities and the things he wishes to do in the next 10 months as BCCI president.

He talked from prioritising first class cricketers to bringing day & night test matches to India. Another conundrum that has been going on for a while in Indian cricket is about the retirent of MS Dhoni. Since the semi-final loss in the World Cup earlier this year, Dhoni is yet to play competitive cricket. Although it is his personal choice whether or not to retire, many have been of the feeling that he is on a rather long break for a cricketer.

Ganguly, before making a comment on Dhoni, the 47-year old said that he will first talk to selectors about Dhoni.

“I will find out from the selectors when I meet them on 24th. I will find out what the selectors are thinking. Then I will put my opinion,” Ganguly was quoted as saying at the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) premises here.

Dhoni, an honorary lieutenant colonel in the territorial army, first took a break from cricket from cricket immediately after the World Cup, when he was to serve his regiment. After returning, he announced a further break, without stating a reason.

On a cricketer taking such a long break, he said, “I was nowhere in picture (when the Dhoni situation was developing). So my first selection committee meeting will be on 24th.”

Ganguly is expected to meet captain Virat Kohli for the first time since becoming the BCCI President during the meeting on October 24.

“Let’s see what Dhoni wants,” Ganguly said.

Ganguly, who was elected unanimously for the coveted post of the BCCI president will officially join the office from October 23 after the board’s annual general meeting. He will join a very short list of the former cricketers serving as the BCCI president alongside Sunil Gavaskar and Shivlal Yadav- after the Maharaja of of Vizianagaram, Lt. Col. Pusapati Vijay Ananda Gajapathi Raju, was the first cricketer to be elected to the post in 1954.
