Recently, Alfa Romeo announced that they were signing a new sponsor in the form of PKN Orlen for the 2020 season. As an added bonus, Polish driver Robert Kubica was also recruited into the team as the reserve and development driver. In light of that, PKN Orlen revealed that Kubica will play an important role at Alfa Romeo in 2020.
Alfa Romeo kicked off the new year with the news of PKN Orlen tying with them as a title sponsor at Alfa Romeo for 2020. In addition to that, the Polish company also dropped a major hint about Alfa Romeo’s livery for the 2020 season.
Shifting focus back to Robert Kubica, the Polish veteran will be juggling his Alfa Romeo reserve role with a race seat in the DTM championship. Orlen president Daniel Obajtek also disclosed that Kubica was involved in the contract negotiations and it was executed with his approval.

Obajtek continued, “This is a proposal he agrees with, but we also have other ideas that we want to implement in 2020. This is not our last announcement.”
While it was largely established that Kubica would be taking part in the occasional Friday practice session, PKN has other plans in the works. Obajtek suggested that Orlen could one day set up its own F1 team sometime in the future, though it seems a little far-fetched.

According to him, there was plenty of interest and it validated themselves as a serious company, but they found that Alfa Romeo’s offer was the most lucrative.
