Remembering the life and career of leon spinks 

The boxing community recently lost an all time great in leon spinks. in remembrance we take a look back at his life and career.

Spinks was Born in St. Louis, Missouri on July 11th 1953. From an early age alongside his brother Michael the duo immersed themselves in the sweet science 

Early Life

Spinks won a gold medal in the heavyweight division at the 1976 Olympic games. He ended his amateur career with a record of 178-7

Olympic Glory 

Just eight fights into his professional career, Spinks faced a legend in Muhammad Ali. He won the fight via Split-Decision and caused perhaps one of the biggest upsets in sporting history

Career-Defining win over Muhammad Ali

Spinks ended his professional career with a record of 178-7. After which he started working with Frontier Martial Arts Wrestling.

Life After Boxing 

Spinks won the Frontier Martial arts world title in 1992. He became only the second man to hold titles on both boxing and wrestling 

In 2019, Spinks was Diagnosed with advanced prostrate cancer. He passed away in a Hospital on February 5th aged 67.
