Every Game of the Year Winner at the Game Awards 2021

The Game Awards 2021 taking place today will be its latest installment. Hosted by Geoff Keighley, the event gives fans major gaming industry reveals, updates, and teasers for the future. Let's take a look at the past seven games which won the prestigious Game of The Year Award each year since 2014.

2014: Dragon Age: Inquisition

In 2014 the Game Awards made its debut in Las Vegas. And it was Dragon Age: Inquisition, developed by BioWare that was the winner, beating games like Bayonetta 2 and Dark Souls II.

2015: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt by CD Projekt Red was the winner of 2015 Games Awards leaving behind Bloodborne, Fallout 4, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and Super Mario Maker.

2016: Overwatch

Overwatch by Blizzard Entertainment won the 2016 Game Award as the best game, beating games like Doom, Titanfall 2 and Uncharted 4: A Thief's End. 


2017: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

The 2017 Game Awards that took place at the Microsoft Theater had The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild as their best game. This game was developed by Nintendo, and held off fierce competition from Horizon Zero Dawn and Persona 5.

2018: God of War

God of War, developed by Santa Monica Studio/Sony Interactive Entertainment won the honor in 2018, leaving behind top games like Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Celeste, Marvel's Spider-Man, Monster Hunter: World, and Red Dead Redemption 2.

2019: Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

The Activision and From Software developed game, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, left the other games behind to win the 2019 Game of the Year Award.

2020: The Last of Us Part II

Last year, it was The Last of Us Part II, developed by Naughty Dog/Sony Interactive Entertainment, which won the best game award. This game beat top contenders like Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Doom Eternal, Final Fantasy VII Remake ,Ghost of Tsushima, and Hades .
